No Gear Racing was started in 2008 by David Tiger of Salinas, California and a few of his friends when they needed a name for their race team which would be traveling to the Bonneville Salt Flats for the first time. The name refers to the 50cc racing moped that they started with and continue to develop, as the machine has no gears and uses a constant variable transmission (CVT).
